The programme starts off with an establishing shot, which is a long shot of a car in front of a house. This lets us know where the first scene will be taking place and it tells us whose house it is, as it is Simon's car parked in front of it. The next shot shows inside the house in a bedroom, it is a long shot of two people kissing on a bed. This tells us who this scene will be about. There is an over the shoulder shot from Simon’s point of view as he stands up when his dad enters. This shows what his dad expression is like as he enters the room and sees Simon and his girlfriend kissing. After this, there are medium shots of Simon then his girlfriend, flicking back and forth depending on who’s talking. This shows us how the conversation is flowing, and gives us a hint of how the characters are feeling as this conversation is happening. There is a reaction shot of Simon as his girlfriend asks him a question. It shows him looking surprised and slightly nervous, this gives us his emotions.
Once this scene is over, there is a flash cut to the school. This made the duration of the shots very brief. The shot of the school is an extreme long shot, showing that’s where the next scene will be. In the school, there are over the shoulder shots of Jay and Neil as they are having a conversation. This again shows us how they're feeling and how the conversation is flowing. Shortly after there is a reaction shot of Simon when Jay tells him worrying news, he again looks very nervous. This is telling us that Simon has a lot of pressure put on him by his friends. As the characters are getting up and walking out of the common room and across the school, there is an eye-level shot so you can see all their faces.
It then shows an extreme long shot of the motor way as the characters are in the car, this again shows us where the next scene will be. As the characters are driving along the motor way, there is a medium shot through the front windscreen on the car so you can see all the characters faces and shoulders as they are talking. This lets us know how every character is reacting to what everyone else is saying.
After the scene in the car, there is an extreme long shot of their car parking outside the house, hinting this is where the next lot of action will take place. It is also hinting that this is where they were driving too. Lastly as the characters are outside the house talking to the person who has just come and greeted them at the door, there are close up’s of characters faces. This shows what the new character is feeling towards them, and how the other characters are acting around her.
